Bleak Beach

It's a bleak beach today...

Even the lighthouse looks cold
like strong peppermint

Lattice work sky
Crocodile back,
mauve and blue,
Black

Flecks of peach
Set off
A white-whipped crust

Walk on pearly crunch
Shells, specks spat out

Sea-waste
Sea-stars

Children on swings talk,
the universal child

Peeling back the silence,
compliments the waves

Virginia's waves wash up,
crash, roll and shimmy
along the shore

A haphazard hem gives chase

A childhood writ in words of water -

Minds blown
Toys tossed

A bleak beach indeed
